Hawkrigg Farm

About The Farm

From its elevated position above the western shores of Lake Windermere, Hawkrigg Farm is a superb, detached, country house that offers amazing views of the lake from virtually every room. Refurbished to the highest possible standard by the current owner, Hawkrigg Farm offers spacious accommodations for friends and extended family to socialise and celebrate in style.

Presented with five beautiful bedrooms, three shower rooms and a luxurious bathroom, everyone will be delighted with their choice of room. The lounge is complemented by a second sitting room offering plenty of space to relax whilst the spacious and bright kitchen/diner, equipped to the highest standard, is the real heart of the home with its large family dining table ideal for special family dinners and hearty Lakeland breakfasts.

To the front of the house, a large lawned garden overlooks the lake where guests can relax, dine or enjoy the hot tub. The village of Far Sawrey is just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage and the popular Cuckoo Brow Inn serves excellent local fare and traditional Lakeland ales. Just up the road a little further (and still within easy walking distance), is the famous tiny village of Near Sawrey. The area is virtually unchanged from the way it looked when the author Beatrix Potter lived here after falling in love with its quaint country scenery. Further afield, the historic village of Hawkshead is less than a ten-minute drive with its delightful whitewashed cottages, village shops and country pubs. Crossing Lake Windermere on the car ferry delivers guests to the popular tourist village of Bowness. For those looking to explore the great outdoors, footpaths criss-cross the valley close to the cottage offering walks from the door and those with mountain bikes can get out and about and enjoy the stunning views from Claife Heights.

Accomodation In Detail

Most visitors arrive at the backdoor of Hawkrigg Farm, which opens onto the boot room, allowing guests to kick off their boots and outdoor gear as they enter. Views to Lake Windermere from most rooms, so guests will be keen to explore the house as they walk through the door.

The welcoming lounge is presented with comfortable sofas which are arranged around the cosy and welcoming log burning stove and large smartscreen TV. Offering living space, just across the hallway, the second sitting room is again beautifully furnished with high-quality sofas and the room is equipped with a second smart TV. From the hallway, the front door opens directly to the garden. The contemporary kitchen diner offers everything you could need and is well equipped with high-quality Neff appliances which include an electric oven, 5 ring induction hob, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer and Nespresso coffee machine. The central island unit, complete with breakfast bar, offers a real social feel to the kitchen which is complemented by the large family dining table and french doors that open directly out to the garden.

Take your pick from a choice of five sumptuous bedrooms, all arranged on the first floor. The four king-size bedrooms are beautifully furnished and presented with high-quality mattresses and bed linen and three offer ensuite shower rooms and one has use of the luxury bathroom with freestanding bath as does the 5th room which is presented as a twin.

Back downstairs, the utility room is equipped with laundry facilities including washing machine and tumble drier and there is a handy cloakroom and WC.

To the front of the farmhouse, there is a large lawned garden offering lovely views to the lake and the surrounding countryside and there is a choice of places to sit and relax with a drink, enjoy an alfresco lunch or enjoy the hot tub set under the gazebo.

Parking is available for up to five cars.

Location

Hawkrigg Farm stands overlooking picturesque Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake. This is a peaceful rural location with the hamlets of Cunsey and Near Sawrey easily accessible. However, Hawkshead and Ambleside remain close by and the bustling centre of Bowness, with its attractions, shops, evening entertainments and restaurants, is only a short trip away on the car ferry across the lake or a lovely way to see the area on foot.

Traditional Lake District cottages and walking routes surround you in this spectacular location. You’re really at the heart of the Lakes and some of our most revered scenery. There are walks aplenty nearby that you can begin without having to use the car. Travel north to Esthwaite Water and the lovely village of Hawkshead. To the west lies the breathtaking scenery of Coniston Water and the surrounding fells, where boating activities and some of the Lakes’ most famous walks await you.

Lakeside is an easy twenty-minute drive away and gives you access by traditional steam train or boat to other parts of the Lake District and also has a fantastic aquarium which is well worth a visit. Nearby Grizedale Forest provides scenic forest walks, sculpture trails and mountain biking tracks and treetop rope adventures. The village of Near Sawrey has an excellent local The Tower Bank Arms, which is a wonderful traditional Lake District country pub. The pub stands just in front of Beatrix Potter’s former home at Hill Top – a magical step back in time for fans of this famous children’s author.
